6. How do I make changes to my project?

1. My trial period has expired, and I can't get to the activation box because the icons are grayed out.

You can still get to the activation box through the MS Project Tools menu. Click Tools/CCPM+/Activate.

2. CCPM icons have appeared, but I get an MS Project error message and nothing happens.

If you have Vista, you may not have the install permissions set, so CCPM+ could not install properly.

  1. Open your start menu, and type in “msconfig” in the input space at the bottom of the menu.
  2. Click on the “tools” tab.
  3. Click on “Disable UAC”.
  4. Click on “launch”.

Restart your computer.

You may need to reinstall CCPM+ after doing that. If so, you first need to uninstall using the Control Panel, Add remove programs.

3. I have resource leveled, but CCPM+ gives me a message that I have to resource level.

Most likely MS Project did not complete resource leveling. To determine this, first display the MS Project resource sheet. If any resources are red, they have not been successfully leveled. There are several ways this can happen:

1. A single task demands a resource load above that available in the resource sheet; e.g. if you have 300% in the resource sheet, and 450% on a single task, MS Project cannot level. Adjust either the resource supply or demand.

2. The resource leveling dialog is set to a level above that of the tasks; e.g. leveling is set to "day by day", but you have tasks with durations less than one full day. Adjust the resource leveling to "hour by hour", and assure no tasks have duration less than one full hour.

3. Task durations are set to less that one full hour. Adjust task durations to be a minimum of one full hour; and ensure that fractional day durations work out to round hours.

4. Task constraints (e.g. "Must start on") do not allow leveling. Remove task constraints until you have completed the critical chain plan, and then insert those that are necessary.

5. You have the default for resources set to decimal vs. %.

6. Assure that no tasks show "actual" information; e.g. actual start date or percent complete.

4. I get an error message that I have multiple end points to my project.

CCPM+ requires that your project lead to a single ending milestone. One way to quickly find "loose ends" is to temporarily add the column "Successors" to your Gantt view, and scroll down looking for blanks. Connect any loose ended tasks into a chain that leads to the single ending milestone.

If you have multiple levels of WBS, you can change your view to not show the summary tasks, to make this even more effective. You can also add an MS project button to your menu that will allow you to toggle between showing and not showing summary tasks.

5. Does CCPM+ do multiproject?

Yes, you can now do multiproject pipelining with CCPM+, and create prioritized task lists for resources that function across multiple projects. Your purchase of CCPM+ includes a detailed procedure for doing this. You do not need MS Project Server to do this, although it works fine with MS Project server. Click here for a summary of the procedure.

6. How do I make changes to my project?

If the changes are small; e.g. adding a few tasks, you can just add them to bottom of the task list. If the logic has changed, you must recalculate the project forward. You should make a copy of your file for this, and delete the completed tasks before proceeding. You may need to adjust the project start date.

  1. Apply the CCPM+ "Undo" function.
  2. Use the MS Project filter to filter for "Completed tasks". Delete the completed tasks.
  3. Highlight all tasks by clicking on the upper left corner of the Gantt chart.
  4. Click on the MS Project "task information" icon.
  5. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  6. Set the task constraint field to "As Soon as Possible".
  7. Make the changes to the network.
  8. Recreate a CC plan
  • Resource level
  • Identify critical chain
  • Insert buffers
